আমাদের দেশে শর্করার প্রধান উৎস ভাত ও রুটি। আলুও খাওয়া হয় বেশ। এর বাইরেও অবশ্য এমন অনেক খাবার খাওয়া হয়, যাতে উচ্চমাত্রায় শর্করা থাকে। চিড়া, মুড়ি, বিস্কুট, কেক, পেস্ট্রি, নুডলস, পাস্তা, পিৎজা কিংবা চিপসের মতো খাবারই যেমন। প্রয়োজনের অতিরিক্ত শর্করা খেলে ওজন বাড়ে। ওজনের সঙ্গে সম্পর্কিত অন্যান্য স্বাস্থ্যঝুঁকিও বাড়ে। দুই বছর বয়স পর্যন্ত কিন্তু খাবারের পরিমাণ নির্ধারণ করার কোনো প্রয়োজনই নেই। শৈশব-কৈশোরে পর্যাপ্ত খাবারদাবার প্রয়োজন। এই সময় একেবারে কম খেলেও অপুষ্টির ঝুঁকি থাকে। সব দিক বিবেচনায় রেখে কোন বয়সে শর্করাজাতীয় খাবার কতটা গ্রহণ করা যাবে, সে বিষয়ে জানালেন ঢাকার গভর্নমেন্ট কলেজ অব অ্যাপ্লায়েড হিউম্যান সায়েন্সের খাদ্য ও পুষ্টিবিজ্ঞান বিভাগের সহযোগী অধ্যাপক শম্পা শারমিন খান।

দুই বছর পেরিয়ে, পাঁচ বছর পর্যন্ত

সারা দিনে দেড়-দুই কাপ ভাত দেওয়া উচিত। একটা মাঝারি আলুর অর্ধেকটা দিন এই বয়সী শিশুকে।

৬-১০ বছর

এই বয়সীদের জন্য শর্করার উৎস হিসেবে দেড়-দুই কাপ ভাত, দুটি রুটি, আধা কাপ চিড়া (বা মুড়ি), একটি মাঝারি আলুর অর্ধেক এবং দু-তিনটি বিস্কুটই যথেষ্ট।

ছোটরা শর্করা থেকে পাবে প্রয়োজনীয় শক্তি

১১-১৬ বছর

এই বয়সে প্রয়োজন তিন-চার কাপ ভাত, তিনটি রুটি, এক কাপ চিড়া (বা মুড়ি), ১টি মাঝারি আকারের আলু। সারা দিনে এগুলোর সঙ্গে আরও খাওয়া যাবে চার-পাঁচটি বিস্কুট।

১৭-২০ বছর

এই বয়সে সারা দিনে প্রয়োজন তিন কাপ ভাত, দুটি রুটি, একটি মাঝারি আলু এবং দু-তিনটি বিস্কুট। তবে কায়িক পরিশ্রম বেশি হলে আরও আধা কাপ ভাত এবং একটি রুটি বাড়িয়ে নিন।

২১-২৫ বছর

আড়াই-তিন কাপ ভাত, দুটি রুটি আর মাঝারি আকারের অর্ধেকটা আলুই এই বয়সের সারা দিনের পুষ্টির জন্য যথেষ্ট।

২৬-৩০ বছর

২১-২৫ বছর এবং ২৬-৩০ বছর বয়সের জন্য শর্করার প্রয়োজন একই পরিমাণ। কিন্তু অতিরিক্ত কায়িক পরিশ্রম হলে এই বয়সে আধা কাপ ভাত বাড়িয়ে দিন, একটি রুটিও বাড়িয়ে নিন, মাঝারি আকারের আলুও খেতে পারবেন পুরোটা।

ওজন কমাতে চাইলে ভাত মেপে খাওয়া উচিত

৩১-৩৫ বছর

সারা দিনে আড়াই থেকে তিন কাপ ভাত এবং দুটি রুটি খেতে পারেন। আলু না খাওয়াই ভালো। নিতান্তই খেতে চাইলে মাঝারি আকারের আলুর অর্ধেকটা খেতে পারেন।

৩৬-৪২ বছর

সারা দিনে দুই কাপ ভাত আর দুটি রুটি খেতে পারবেন। আলু পারতপক্ষে খাবেনই না। মুড়ি, চিড়া, বিস্কুটও নয়।

৪২ পেরোনোর পর

রোজ ভাত খেতে পারবেন দেড় থেকে দুই কাপ, রুটি দু-তিনটি। আলু, মুড়ি, চিড়া, বিস্কুট খাবেন না।

Breast Cancer Awareness

Breast cancer accounts for 15% of all cancer diagnoses in 2023. This alarming statistic highlights the urgent need for awareness and early detection. Breast cancer awareness is crucial to help catch the disease as quickly as possible. According to Dr. Katherine Holbrook, an A.T. Still University Kirksville Family Medicine Primary Care physician, breast cancer awareness "helped save my mom. She had breast cancer in her thirties, and it was very aggressive. Early detection is the reason that she's still around today and can enjoy life with her grandkids and her children."

It's the second most common cause of cancer in women and the second most common deadly cancer in women. Medical experts say that the number of people being diagnosed with cancer has increased to a concerning level, with over 12% of women being diagnosed at some point in their lifetime. Knowing the signs of breast cancer, such as changes in the texture of the breast, a mass or swelling, changes in the skin, dimpling, or pain, is essential to start treatment as soon as possible.

Lifestyle changes and regular screenings for breast cancer can help prevent this disease. Dr. Holbrook suggests avoiding a sedentary lifestyle, obesity after menopause, and reducing alcohol consumption. Regular screenings can reduce your risk of death by breast cancer by about 26%. If you are over the age of 40, it's recommended to get tested for breast cancer once every one or two years. Let's raise awareness and prioritize early detection to fight against breast cancer.

15% of all cancer diagnoses and seven percent of deaths due to cancer in 2023 have been caused by breast cancer in the United States.

That's why breast cancer awareness is important to help catch the disease as quickly as possible.

"Breast cancer (awareness) is really important for helping your health, helping your family's health," said Dr. Katherine Holbrook, an A.T. Still University Kirksville Family Medicine Primary Care physician. "It helped save my mom. She had breast cancer in her thirties, and it was very aggressive and early detection is the reason that she's still around today and can enjoy life with her grandkids and her children."

Medical experts say that the number of people being diagnosed with cancer has increased to a concerning level with over 12% of women being diagnosed at some point in their lifetime.

"It's the second most common cause of cancer in women, and it's the second most common deadly cancer in women," Dr. Holbrook said. "So it's about one in eight chance of getting it in your lifetime. And the incidence is increasing. Overall, it's about 0.5% increasing."

That's why it's important to know the signs of breast cancer so you can start treatment as soon as possible.

"Changes in the texture of your breast," Dr. Holbrook said. "Either a mass or swelling. Changes in the skin. So you can see a rash like a scaly ulceration. You can see dimpling, which is often a sign. You can have pain, but not always."

Several ways to prevent cancer include lifestyle changes and constant testing for the disease.

"Avoiding a sedentary lifestyle, avoiding obesity after menopause, reducing our alcohol consumption and getting regular screenings for breast cancer as well," Dr. Holbrook added. "That can reduce your risk of death by breast cancer by about 26%."

It's recommended if you are over the age of 40 you should get tested for breast cancer once every one or two years.

Intel 14 th Gen

Intel has officially unveiled its 14th-generation desktop processors, which, compared to previous generations, offer relatively minor upgrades. Unlike previous launches that introduced significant improvements, such as the 12th-generation Alder Lake CPUs, this iteration from Intel is more iterative and less thrilling. However, the positive news for budget-conscious PC builders is that the 14th-gen CPUs are compatible with existing 600- and 700-series motherboards with a BIOS update, eliminating the need for new motherboard purchases. Despite the lack of compelling reasons to upgrade from a 12th-gen setup, the option is still available for those interested.

Interestingly, Intel has chosen to designate these processors with a throwback branding, in contrast to its other chips. In an effort to simplify its product lineup, Intel is moving away from the generational nomenclature, as well as the i3/i5/i7/i9 branding, towards a unified "Core" and "Core Ultra" branding. This shift reflects the similarity of the 14th-gen chips to their 13th- and 12th-gen predecessors. Regarding the technical details, the 13th-generation refresh introduced minor but notable changes to the architecture, including increased E-cores, additional L2 and L3 cache, and slight clock speed improvements for the high-end chips. The power budgets also saw slight increases. However, for lower-end chips, specifically the non-overclockable i5 and lower tiers, the Alder Lake architecture remained largely unchanged, with only a few E-cores added and clock speeds boosted without altering the silicon. In terms of the 14th-generation CPUs, they essentially mirror the Raptor Lake refresh, with no additional E-cores, cache, memory speed support, or changes in power requirements. The base and turbo clock speeds across the P- and E-cores have been increased by 100 or 200 MHz, but other specifications remain unchanged, including the integrated Intel UHD 770 GPU. Intel has launched six unlocked and overclockable processors today, following its usual top-down approach. This includes three K-series CPUs with integrated GPUs and three KF-series CPUs without GPUs, which are priced $25 lower.
